Another womenswear favourite, ruching was popular in both lingerie and swimwear collections this season. At the more mature end of the market, ruching was used in swimwear as a bulge-masking technique to flatter the figure and in some cases to draw attention away from the midriff to the bust. In keeping with the slimming technique, brands opted for block colours in favour of bold prints. Younger and boudoir-focused labels ignored practicality and embraced sexy, bedroom designs. Going all out on the trend, boudoir labels added heavy ruffles and large bows to their collections.
