Trendwatch: Maximalism sticks for pre-spring

The pre-collections, or resort ranges, indicate emerging trends and commercial winners for the summer season.

Following an autumn in which paint splatters and colourful fur entered the womenswear sphere, maximalist dressing is set to be front and centre for spring 15. Clashing prints in particular have materialised across several of the biggest designers’ pre-collections, from sporty stripes at Kenzo to floral and paisley mixes at Stella McCartney. Although younger customers will be the first to gravitate towards bolder pieces, sophisticated silhouettes such as the classic Burberry trench lend a maturity to heavily printed pieces for older shoppers.
