Velvet was the fabric of choice at Pitti Bimbo this season, with all brands embracing it predominantly across girlswear. There was little distinction between how brands used the fabric, with streetwear, classic, casualwear and designer labels all mixing it across skirts, dresses, trousers, jackets and as trims. Black and hot pink dominated the velvet colour palette, with olive green a close second on designer-led labels. Even boyswear didn’t escape the trend; velvet was seen across some classic brands like Cacharel, but it was stronger on streetwear brands, which used it across blazers to create the ubiquitous preppy look and more subtly on brand logos and motifs.
