Uniqlo

Spring 10

Looks

A clean utility story, a nautical capsule and techy brights are key looks for Uniqlo’s spring 10 womenswear, with the added theme of a play with textures as soft leather bombers, treated cottons, textured knits, silk shifts, lightweight parkas, zip-through sweat jersey skirts and sporty hoodies all add up to an 80s tinged utility story. While this is very Stella Mccartney, uniting the eclectic items is a sophisticated palette that recalls Italo Zuccheli’s Calvin Klein catwalks, with clever neutrals shades of cream and khaki interspersed with navy shades and super brights. The red, white and navy riviera story is a counterpoint with Breton striped knits and rope-print scarves going for a marina chic look. Soft pastel jeans introduce a casual alternative to rock chic skinny jean seen all over the rest of the high street.

Key pieces

  • Silk smock dress with drawstring
  • Moss green leather bomber jacket
  • Sweat jersey harem pants
  • Denim biker jacket

Right for the market

Absolutely bang on. Uniqlo attracts a loyal and fashion-literate following so it has to serve up a marriage of trend-led key pieces and its own clean handwriting. It has done this with aplomb. Soft touch handles make each piece desirable and while there are some super sexy looks in the mix – like the zip-through extra short sweat skirt – the simplicity of most lines makes this a democratic collection that can fit most body shapes. This is high fashion for the high street.
