What to Buy: The Womenswear Shoot, Spring 17

The Drapers buyers’ guide for the new season gives you a first look at spring 17’s vibrant, contrasting colours and seductive silhouettes

Buy bold

Styling by Graeme Moran. Photography by Helen McArdle

Be confident this season and buy into the bright, buoyant mood of many collections. Colour is key, best bought in eye-catching blocks that pack a punch. A rainbow array is on offer, from poppy primary brights to warm and vivid hues. Temper this vibrancy with layers of crisp white and cool pastels.

Focus on shapes that are stylishly simple and elegantly oversized, creating a relaxed, effortless air. Softly tailored trousers and culottes are generously wide and roomy. Minimal tops are updated with cut-out panels or shoulderless silhouettes. Shift shapes and T-shirt dresses also stand out, while soft knits and light transitional coats – unstructured and unlined – cocoon and drape.
