As a fully paid-up member of the UK’s mainstream womenswear scene, Frank Lyman knows a thing or two about dresses.

No surprise then that the brand has announced it has used its eveningwear expertise to launch a capsule collection of flirty cocktail dresses and dramatic floor-length gowns. Called Lyman by Frank Lyman, the team has produced a 39-piece dress collection for spring 14 that includes luxurious finishes, flattering cuts and a touch of glamour at competitive prices.

Aesthetically the brand has explored all areas of eveningwear. In terms of cocktail dresses the range comprises a figure-hugging, knee-length bandage-style option with an on-trend sheer, bejewelled neckline, as well as a demure fit-and-flare shape made from lace, overlaid on a contrast lining and tied at the waist with a bow, a key detail of this collection. Other styles include a sparkly option with a gentle peplum, while most dresses are cut high on the neck to maintain the sophisticated air.

Gowns follow a similar vein, but have a little more presence due to fuller skirts and slightly lower necklines. They feature draped, waterfall wraps, lacy, nipped-in bow-tied waists and one-shoulder details. Colours are kept simple
in black, ivory, dark navy, white and nude versions of the brand’s signature stretch silk jersey, accented by licks of gold and silver. Hand-embellished crystals, gems and sequins bring the dresses to life and take them in a more evening direction. There is a lot of work in each one, so the quality justifies the wholesale prices of £80 for cocktail dresses and £110 for gowns.
