Q&A: Sir Paul Smith reveals his predictions for the season ahead

Drapers caught up with Sir Paul Smith at Parisian textile fair Première Vision to look ahead to spring 15.

Why do you come to Premiere Vision?

We’ve got a team of thirty with us, covering menswear, womenswear and all our accessories. I bring everyone here as it’s important to get out and see what’s happening. You might just find something new. You’ve got to immerse yourself in the industry and see what’s going on.

What has caught your eye?

We’ve seen more and more sportswear, cycling, walking and all that performance stuff. Very sporty wind proof and rain proof fabrics. I’m also seeing a lot more colour as I think people want colour. The news and everything is so depressing the way it is so people want colour.

What would you change about the show?

The fair is slightly late for us. Because we do pre-collections and holiday drops there are more and more deadlines so we’ve been working on spring 15 for three to four weeks already.

For a full report on Première Vision, see next week’s issue of Drapers, March 1.
