Marianna G, a new high-end swimwear brand, is set to launch in the UK for spring 13. Here Drapers talks to its designer and founder Marianna Goulandris to find out more about the collection.
Q: Why did you choose the UK to launch the collection?
A: The UK is an incredibly significant market and it’s important to have recognition here. I grew up in London and it’s where my love of fashion started. I couldn’t imagine starting anywhere else.
Q: Will you be launching in any other markets for spring and if yes, which ones?
A: Yes we’re launching in Greece specifically and we plan to target individual markets across the whole of Europe for spring 13.
Q: How many stockists are you hoping to secure for your first season?
A: We are working with G and T Agency this season to target specific retailers and independents with the aim to secure stockists for spring 13.
Q: Can you give me some examples of which stockists you will be targeting and hope to secure?
A: We’re targeting high-end department stores in London and throughout the UK, and independent boutiques that really suit our ambitions as a brand.
Q: Which brands do you see yourself sitting alongside?
A: High end swimwear brands including Melissa Odabash, Heidi Klein, Zimmerman; all of which have an aesthetic I really admire.
Q: Will you be launching an ecommerce site and if so when does it go live?
A: We have launched our website www.mariannagswimwear.com. For the moment, our main focus is on building a great relationship with our retailers. However we will upgrade to ecommerce at some point in the future.
Q: What styles of swimwear does the spring 13 collection include?
A: The debut collection for spring 13 encapsulates one-pieces and bikinis in fine Italian fabrics, and a variety of kaftans, billowing maxi skirts and minis in silk cotton and crochet. Influenced by the splendour of Greece and its illustrious ancient history, the debut collection evokes an opulent lifestyle and a sense of powerful female identity.
