Indies frozen out by snow

A number of factors come into play here - the weather, making it not possible for many to shop; traditionally it is one of the worst trading weeks anyway, the recession and general lack of cash around. All these factors have lead to dreadful takings for many, money that you cannot claw back. Another point worth making are the number of brands that are screwing the independents by the unprecedented amount of discounting on their own websites, especially in Sale period. Some have discounted to almost trade price levels, which is making their retailers irrelevant. This cannot continue. All this will have an even greater effect on the lack of forward orders from Indies, so any brands who start giving the old 'minimum order routine' will know where the door is. Brands have to start living in the real world and accept that in these increasingly tough times, their practices are completely out of date and unrealistic.
