What are your views on discounting? Take part in Drapers' survey
When working with clients or talking to retailers ( and there is a lot as I also act as retail expert at Whos Next ), you realise that 50% + of indies do not have an epos system and data on stock and sales is not taken in an optimised way to lower discounts and improve profits.
By the way, ask a retailer how much pounds he/she gives away over a 12 month period and they cannot give you a value yet discounting is the biggest thief in the store!
Many retail forums or debates never discuss buying and merchandising. So retailers struggle to find relevant information on how to get the right product at the right time in the right quantity.
Not long ago, a panel discussion with 5 experts was debating about the What, Why, When ... of discounting.
Guess what? They only discussed discounting as a way to generate more customer traffic and NEVER as a consequence of over stock!
I am open to participate in any action to improve retail buying.
