Just enough on-trend updates alongside the basics keep the Clarks customer happy.

Clarks manages to balance a level of trend direction with basic casual and comfort styles, keeping everyone happy. Strappy-heeled wedges stand out, channelling elements of the season’s key cork, wood or espadrille soles but not alienating Clarks’ shoppers, while a good range of flat strappy sandals and comfort options are seen. Signature desert boots take pride of place at the front of the men’s offer, in an array of colours and fabrics, alongside directional Clarks Originals, summer brogues and an extensive range of formal styles.

The most trend-led versions of women’s strappy wedge heels range from £89.99 (from the Mary Portas collection) down to £34.99, which is a good spread. Quality is key throughout and prices are actually very good for the standard of product. The same is true of the menswear range, with brogues ranging from £59.99 (leather with EVA sole) up to £110 (leather with leather sole). Pretty well-rounded.

Clarks has some good window displays, with one side dedicated to men’s and one for women’s, highlighting a good range of styles in an interesting way. Staff greeted customers and offered help straight away. Product is organised logically which makes
the store easy to navigate, and signs draw attention to wider-fit options and special half sizes for some styles. The Mary Portas collection is also prominent on a display
table while styles are merchandised beside matching accessories.
