A comprehensive basics offer is balanced out with the key looks in a tidy environment
There’s about a two-to-one split between basics and trend-oriented pieces in Dorothy Perkins, with the retailer opting to back the easier-to-wear looks for spring to mesh well with its everyday pieces. Florals are here in a big way, mainly in mini and medium-sized prints on girlish, layered sheer dresses as well as on loose cotton tops. Other looks include gathered-waist tribal-print dresses and navy-and-white striped cardis, although there is no evidence of directional denim.
This is a well-presented store, despite an uninspiring window, which features just one piece of Dorothy Perkins clothing. Staff are finishing the morning clean when Drapers arrives so the vacuuming is a little disconcerting but doesn’t take away from well-ordered rails, clear product areas and a denim wall.
Basics hit the value-for-money spot with three vests for £12 and simple, puff-sleeved polos at the same price. A tribal-print dress in 100% cotton is just £28. The upper end of the offer is left to workwear, which includes a grey, military-inspired tailored jacket at £45.
