Dune, 18 South Molton Street

A mature range from Dune shows the retailer understands its customer

Product 7½

Dune’s trend interpretations are bang on for spring 10, catering for party girls with glitzy glam, but also maturing its offer via a taupe suede court with contrast pointy platform and a nude leather strappy platform without losing its fashion edge. Dune continues to sell its popular Roxanne riding boot style, ready to capitalise on any unseasonal weather.

Experience 6

The store is clean and compact, but its long and thin shape makes for a challenging environment to merchandise. The back wall is dedicated to marked-down stock, but looks tatty. The music was too loud, and while staff were on hand, no one helped when Drapers tried a shoe straight from the display.

Value 7

Product on the Sale rack is reduced by up to 50% so there are some bargains to be had, but it is essential that Dune clears this discounted stock as soon as possible, as sitting next to the Sale rack are full-price bendy flat pumps retailing for £70. These are justified in price as vamp detailing offers great value and outstrips the plain Russell & Bromley versions which were more expensive. A ruffle-front slingback T-bar platform in pink is £85 and a statement royal blue suede slingback is £95.
