Amazon launches monthly Prime package

Amazon is testing a monthly payment option for its Prime service in the UK.

The new package will allow customers to access the full benefits of Prime, including its offer of unlimited one-day shipping on orders, as well as Amazon movies and TV shows, for £7.99 per month. Prime was previously only available for an annual subscription of £79.

Amazon said: “We’re always looking at new ways to enhance Amazon Prime membership for our customers. We already offer a Prime Video monthly subscription for UK customers, and we are testing a Prime monthly offer in the UK.”

Amazon is flexing its muscles in the TV and film streaming space, which is currently dominated by Netflix. Jeremy Clarkson is set to host a TV motoring series on Amazon Prime later this year, alongside his former BBC TopGear presenters Richard Hammond and James May.

The etailer has also been bolstering its fashion arm, having recently appointed former Marks & Spencer director Frances Russell as vice president of clothing for Amazon Fashion EU.
