Asos offline after large fire at warehouse

Asos has been hit by a fire in its Barnsley warehouse forcing the etail giant to stop taking orders.

The fire took place on Friday night (June 20) at its distribution centre on Park Spring road in Grimethorpe. In a statement posted on its Facebook page at around 1:30am, Asos said: “We experienced a fire in our warehouse tonight and fortunately nobody was hurt. We understand there has been substantial damage but it’s too early to ascertain the extent. We will not be taking any orders in the meantime. Sincere apologies for the inconvenience.”

A similar message has now been posted to the main site as well as the Asos Twitter page.

Responses on Twitter are flooding in with many customers voicing concern over their orders. Fellow retailer Shop Direct posted the following message of support:

@ShopDirect: @ASOS Glad to hear everyone’s OK. If there’s anything we can do to help, just shout.”

This month saw Asos issue a profit warning ahead of its full year results, citing a slow in international sales and increased levels of promotional activity for its disappointing profit performance.
