Asos sales continue to soar

Sales at Asos continued to soar as retail revenues rose 31% year-on-year in its last quarter with the etailer now boasting five million active customers.

Sales rose to £538m in the three months to August 31, up 31% compared with the same period last year. UK sales rose 15%, while international sales jumped 42%. International sales equated to 65% over the period, up from 60% last year.

Asos now boasts five million active customers, a rise of 35% compared to this time last year.

Chief executive officer Nick Robertson said: “Our sales performance in those markets where we have a website continue to outperform.” He said despite investing in its pricing retail gross margin improved by 70 basis points over the period.

Robertson added: “Profit for the five months ended 31 August 2012 and pro forma full year, are expected to be in line with expectations, and we approach our new financial year with continued confidence.”
