Demand for specialist ecommerce skills has caused salaries to rocket within the space of a year, according to research from ecommerce recruitment specialist Cranberry Panda.
The average salary for an ecommerce director now ranges from £120,000-£250,000, compared with £100,000-£200,000 last year.
Roles such as ecommerce trading manager and customer experience manager are on average receiving up to £10,000 more than last year, according to the 2014 salary survey, with the former now getting £35,000-£60,000 and the latter £40,000-£75,000.
An ecommerce manager position commands the same as in 2013, however - between £35,000 and £65,000.
Content assistants - a new role added to the survey - should expect to receive between £25,000-£35,000, with content manager roles ranging from £35,000-£55,000.
The sector has a fairly equal split of male and female employees - 51% male and 49% female - however 28% of men earn less than £35,000 compared with 51% of women.
The survey highlighted the fast turnover in roles, with 45% of respondents in their role for less than a year, and only 5% having been at the same company for more than five years.
The survey, which was analysed by ecommerce consultant Daniel Barker, said user experience experts, in-house web designers and web analytics were some of the most in-demand roles in the market.
Jonathan Hall, founder of Cranberry Panda, said: “Our salary survey has raised some very interesting and useful insight into what is currently happening within ecommerce. The two significant findings are that salaries in ecommerce are significantly higher than the UK average, over £13,000 more! The other major insight was that there is a gender pay gap despite there being an almost 50:50 mix of males and females in the industry.”
Cranberry Panda collated the data by comparing the information it holds on current job listings and salaries with the roles it had on its books last year, as well as researching other roles across the market.
