Today is to be the busiest day of the year for etailers with Christmas shoppers expected to spend at least £350m on festive gifts online.
The first Monday in December - ‘Cyber Monday’ - is historically the cue for shoppers to start spending online in the run up to Christmas.
According to IMRG, the trade body for etailers, total sales are expected to be £5bn for December, a 14% increase on last year.
IMRG director of operations David Smith said: “To reach that amount during a recession shows [the] huge resilience of the online sector. People are turning to the internet looking for value.”
