French second hand clothing site to launch in UK

French second-hand clothing sales site, VestiaireDeCopines.com, is to launch a UK version called Fashionomic this spring.

Fashionomic, which does not have a UK web address at present, allows consumers to sell, buy and resell second hand clothes and accessories, in a similar format to that used by eBay and Asos Marketplace although at Fashionomic, instead of deliveries being made direct to the buyer from the seller, packages will be sent to Fashionomic’s staff before being sent on to the customer.

It is expected that average purchases by British consumers will reach about £420 against an average of £275 for purchases made on the French site as the British buy more second hand clothes than the French.

The company makes money from sales via the site by taking a commission which can vary from 10% to 55%. It is unclear how the commission level is set.

The website is also planning to launch German and Scandinavian versions of the site by the summer.
