George at Asda plots revamped website

George at Asda is to relaunch its website at the end of this year.

The supermarket has appointed web design agencies Pod1 and eCommera to work on the relaunch and is recruiting an in-house web designer.

The new George site will be given a standalone identity whereby shoppers can access it directly, or as they currently do via the Asda site. It will also offer “social media elements”.

The move is part of George managing director Andrew Moore’s plan to double sales within five years and to drive online sales to account for 10% of George’s total by 2013.

Moore told Drapers that web sales are currently more than two times those of George’s largest store.

He would not say what percentage of George revenues they account for.
