Smartphones to be used by 10 million Christmas shoppers

Almost 10 million shoppers will use a smartphone or tablet to do their Christmas shopping this year, with 9% of consumers eschewing PCs this Christmas, a new study forecasts.

Around one in 10 shoppers who used a computer to do their Christmas shopping last year will use a smartphone in 2012, according to research from software technology specialist BSS Digital.

Consumers aged between 18 and 34 are the most likely to use smartphones - the research estimates one in five purchases made by people in this age range will be made using these mobile devices.

One in six Londoners are likely to favour their smartphone to do their Christmas shopping on, with nearly one in four Londoners (24%) using them regularly for shopping.
