Hit or miss: Aldo - 7/10

  • 372 Oxford Street

Aldo, Autumn 14

The white walls and flooring give Aldo a bright, attractive feel. The space is used wisely and is easy to navigate. The ground floor is predominantly women’s footwear, with a wide range of styles from over-the-knee boots to loafers. A cobalt stacked court shoe with a metallic strip on the inside of the heel is £80, matching the price of Dune’s heels but offering better value for money with this interesting design feature. The pricing of Aldo’s men’s range is much the same as at Clarks, offering good value for the quality, with leather lace-up boots at £100 and lace-up loafers for £80. However, the store environment for men’s is better at Aldo. Men’s styles are spread across the right-hand corner of the shop and continue into the basement - a good idea as it draws in passing male shoppers, unlike at Clarks, where it is segregated from women’s on another floor. There are a few seats downstairs and a full mirrored wall.

Staff were not very attentive and there was no one to help shoppers on the basement floor, despite it being a busy lunchtime when we visited.
