17-17a Market Street
Dune’s spring collection ticks all the key trends for the season, with tassel-detail loafers, strappy wedges and pointy-toe court heels in a variety of colour-pop hues, leopard-print and metallic snakeskin details. The men’s offer is also strong, ranging from casual styles including espadrilles and trainers with leather uppers to desert boots, leather brogues with coloured soles and classic loafers.
Footwear is displayed in sizes four to six in women’s, but sizes do go up to an eight. The men’s department has the largest size range of all the shops Drapers visited, starting at a six and going up to a 14.
Dune sits near the upper end of the high street offer in terms of price, with leather Chelsea boots coming in at £110, the standout cobalt blue and leopard-print ankle-strap stilettos at £79 and embellished flip-flops at £55. However, prices are lower than those at Kurt Geiger, where similar flip-flops are £65, and Dune has the edge in terms of colour and design. On the men’s side, casual canvas slip-ons start at a competitive £30, while £100 leather brogues match Office’s H by Hudson versions at £99.99.
In store the shop is tidy and the product is displayed neatly. The staff are friendly and greet customers. The service is also quick, and pop socks and insoles are offered when trying on shoes. The sales assistant offers to order in sizes and says they can hold items until the end of the Next day.
Visual Merchandising 6/10
The window displays a good mix of product from both the men’s and women’s collections, including casual and formal shoes. Items are clearly priced. There are also signs indicating that there is a 20%-off promotion taking place on the day of Drapers’ visit.
