Hit or Miss: Footasylum 4/10

Ground floor, unit 8

Footasylum

Pros Footasylum has an extensive range of trainers from big brands such as Adidas, Nike and Converse. Men’s shoes are on the left wall as you enter the shop and women’s are further back. Targeted at teenagers and shoppers in their early 20s, Footasylum has a large product crossover with other retailers, including Foot Locker and Schuh, but has a more urban atmosphere. The shop matches Foot Locker’s price on Adidas Originals Superstar trainers by Pharrell Williams, which are £66.99.

Cons There is no footwear displayed in the window at the time of visiting, which seems odd and is not helpful for shoppers. Instead, a large campaign image of a model’s face dominates the entire window. The store is dark and the aisles are narrow and difficult to navigate. The music is too loud. Staff do not greet shoppers as they enter the store; in fact most of them are chatting among themselves at the rear of the shop. However, one sales assistant is very helpful towards one young shopper.
