The third and final instalment of our spring 15 survey puts shoe stores through their paces.
Westfield London shopping centre in Shepherd’s Bush was the destination for Drapers’ final Hit or Miss of the season, and this time the attention turned to footwear.
It was a mixed bag of results. Unlike in our womenswear and menswear reports, customer service was much improved on last season, but again a lack of choice in men’s footwear let many stores down. For women’s footwear the 1970s trend was particularly widespread, with high platforms and wedges a staple in almost every collection. Loafers with tassel details featured in all shops visited. For men, brogues are still popular and all 18 retailers ticked the box for deck shoes.
The Westfield shops are divided into two sections – footwear-only stores and clothing multiples – and are scored based on their specific spring 15 offers and in-store experience, including customer service, store layout and visual merchandising. Points for value consider the quality of the product compared with the competitiveness of its pricing. Shops were visited on April 9 and 10 and were all in Westfield London (except Primark, for which we visited the nearby Hammersmith branch).
