Hit or Miss: French Connection - 5/10

Westfield London, ground floor, unit 116

French_Connection

Pros

Not many stores get the balance between seasonal newness and classic basics as right as French Connection this season. Trendy florals are here, but in more abstract patterns to give broader appeal (from £40). A classic unlined blazer (£195) with its inside seams taped in neon orange is attractive, while standard polo shirts feature striped under-collars (£32). Points for bold use of colour throughout.

Cons

In the changing rooms one cubicle is used as a store cupboard, which is messy and untidy; staff should at least keep this door closed. Although they look good, large silver shelves hang directly from the ceiling and vibrate and swing when you remove product, which feels unnerving. While some prices offer value for money, others are quite steep. Basic denim for £65 seems high for what it is, and a thin technical jacket for £70 feels no better than the cheaper ones at Topman and River Island. Items in the Sale simply have their prices crossed out and a new one messily handwritten on, which looks downmarket.
