Hit or miss: Hobbs - 5/10

  • 217-219 Regent Street

Hobbs AW14

Hobbs AW14

Pros

Hobbs has a strong British theme for autumn 14, with a black and white photo of London in the window and mannequins in almost Victoriana pieces, such as floor-length coats, mid-calf high-neck dresses and brogues. Inside, one half of the shop looks like a premium vintage boutique while the other is filled with classic pieces, such as woollen shift dresses, wrap coats and roll-neck jumpers. Throughout, the range seems coherent, with pieces working well together as a collection. Hobbs is one of the better premium stores for providing a range of larger sizes, up to around a 16.

Cons

Most pieces are more expensive than elsewhere, with coats up to £500 while silk blouses are £120. In terms of quality, however, they don’t impress in comparison with the cheaper versions in Jigsaw. The changing rooms also let Hobbs down as the walls and carpet are shabby.
