Hit or miss: Jaeger - 8/10

  • 200-206 Regent Street

Jaeger AW14Menswear

Pros

The store, which feels a bit like an upscale bank with its central glass lift and wide open spaces, seems a better fit for menswear than it does the women’s due to the more sartorial nature of the product. It is well merchandised with black and white campaign images and enticing mannequins, which are creatively layered. Value is good, for example in the Made in Britain section a semi-canvassed wool blazer is £399 but has the British-made appeal as well as high quality. Classic checked blazers (around £300-plus) are updated with a modern slim 1sb silhouette and fine-gauge cashmere jumpers are a competitive two for £250. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

Cons

Suiting is a little unimaginative, with only one db jacket and limited colours. Some of the merchandising in the window is confused, with different looks that don’t fit together as well as the likes of Jigsaw or Cos. Some prices, such as £800 for a plain camel hair overcoat, are high despite the lovely cloth, and the design is uninspired.
