1 Kings Mall, Hammersmith
There is no better review than a group of shoppers saying how excited they are about product, like the group of teenage shoppers I see filling their baskets in Primark. With a sea of T-shirts for £8 or under, shirts from £7, jeans in five fits from £8 and shorts from £3.50, it feels like there is something for everyone – and at the lowest prices around. Windows are eye-catching, while in-store signage highlights low prices or new design features. A performancewear area is good, only rivalled by H&M, while suiting is a high point. A full suit costs an unbeatable £40 with details such as peak or notch lapels and built-in pocket squares.
Coming up the escalator to the men’s department, the first thing I see is a table display in total disarray. Other items are discarded on the floor with nearby staff appearing to ignore the mess and the shoppers. New for this season is a way of hanging trousers from belt hooks on packed rails, which unfortunately adds to the messiness.
