Westfield London, first floor, unit 57
As at many stores, the windows at River Island feature only monochrome product. Here, though, it looks stylish and modern. Mannequins are positioned in front of neon strip lights and a wall of graffiti in a display that will surely catch the eye of younger shoppers. A rail of product marked ‘just arrived’ by the entrance is a clever way to alert shoppers to new pieces, which include a lyocell military-style jacket (£60), a tan PU miniskirt (£30) and a cotton vest (£10). This is very much fast fashion, so while quality isn’t great, prices are more than fair. River Island is often associated with partywear, but the casual offer is strong, with lots of slogan T-shirts and denim to rival Topshop.
Cons Customer service is basically non-existent; staff are more concerned with putting stock away. The entrance to the fitting rooms is cluttered and the cubicles themselves are not much better, with several lights not working.
