Hit or Miss: River Island 8/10

First floor, unit 57

River Island

Pros River Island is the pick of the bunch when it comes to merchandising. Various women’s footwear styles are dotted around the store with matching accessories. Customers are greeted at the entrance by a large table of monochrome shoes and bags, while mannequins throughout the store are dressed in loafers and strappy platforms. River Island is one of the strongest retailers for spring 15 trends with nods to the 1970s, white shoes and embellished flat sandals. Prices are similar in style and quality to Topshop, with wedges at £50 and leather tassel loafers slightly more expensive at £45. Prices for men’s footwear are on a par with Next, with boat shoes of similar quality at £45 in both. The staff are friendly and eager to help.

Cons The men’s footwear area looks untidy due to a large table filled with Sale stock taking up much of the corner dedicated to it.
