Hit or miss: Russell & Bromley - 6/10

  • 192-194 Oxford Street

Russell and Bromley AW14

Pros

It is refreshing to see prices in the window of Russell & Bromley, particularly as so many high street multiples visited fail to label the shoes on display. A wide range of styles from brogues to boots are presented and the retailer also highlights its recent appearances in fashion magazines. Despite being busy, the store is immaculate with men’s and women’s styles on opposite sides of the shop. Oak display cases add an element of luxury, as does the smell of leather. There is a wide range of footwear from knee-length leather boots for a pricey £365 to a small selection of espadrilles for £225. There isn’t a Sale sign or price reduction in sight. Staff were friendly, with one even speaking Turkish to assist shoppers.

Cons

Prices are expensive compared with other stores offering products of equal quality. Leather Chelsea boots are £215 - more than double the price of a similar pair at Dune for £100. While the range is good, it does not have any attention-grabbing styles.
