Hit or miss: Schuh - 7/10

  • 200 Oxford Street

SCHUH AW14

Pros

Brands are the bread and butter for Schuh, and this Oxford Street branch offers a large selection of labels with women’s footwear on the ground floor and men’s in the basement. Popular brands, including Nike, Hunter, New Balance and Toms, are placed at the entrance to turn the heads of passing shoppers. Schuh’s own-brand range of women’s styles looks strong, with leather ankle boots at £45, which is good value for money. The friendly and helpful staff approached shoppers, suggesting a number of men’s shoes, including Ted Baker loafers (£110) and Base brogues (£65) for one customer’s boyfriend’s birthday. The window is one of the best of the bunch with a motorcycle parked up to promote Clarks’ biker boot collaboration with Norton, available in store.

Cons

Like other Schuh branches the store is quite crowed with product and stands, making it difficult to navigate, particularly at a busy lunchtime. Some styles are overpriced for the quality, for example barely there ankle-strap sandals are
£65 - £5 more than River Island’s version, which is more detailed.
