Hit or miss: Topshop - 8/10

  • 216 Oxford Street

TOPSHOP AW14

Pros

The store is equipped with a central information point, allowing customers to check product availability as well as holding items. This also houses a helpful express changing room for four or fewer items. In terms of fashion-forward product, Topshop is easily the best, from interesting double-layered knits and coats that combine three or more fabrics (such as fake leather, suede and wool) to dresses and tops with embroidery or embellishment. Generally, pieces come in at about £40. Although quality isn’t necessarily better than the likes of Oasis or Warehouse, the directional designs add value.

Cons

Sizing is random, with a whole rail of jeans only in an eight, and some areas seem repetitive with product. Some prices are surprising, with coats ranging from £60 to £175 without it being obvious why. Getting into the changing rooms is like going through airport security, as items are checked very carefully by staff, which feels confrontational.
