Hit or Miss: Topshop/Topman 7/10

First floor, unit 36

Topshop

Pros Footwear is well merchandised throughout, with mannequins wearing key styles for the season, including platforms, wedges and loafers. Tables of matching shoes and accessories are also spread around the shop. The designated shoe area for women is on the first floor and is large and bright. All footwear is segmented by style, making the large collection easy to navigate. Many styles are good value for money, with leather tassel loafers at £45 compared with a pair of a similar quality from Dune costing £69. Leather lightweight wedges are a reasonable £46, whereas it is £50 for a similar pair at River Island. The men’s area is larger than those in other retailers and offers a good mix. At £42, leather deck shoes are £3 cheaper than River Island’s similar style. Also on offer are brands such as Fred Perry and Converse, which sets Topshop/Topman apart from other fashion multiples.

Cons No staff are on hand near the women’s area to help shoppers. The range lacks colour compared with rivals River Island and New Look.
