Zara scores points by combining directional designs with better quality than the likes of Topman and River Island. Outerwear is strong, including real leather or suede bombers and biker jackets for about £179 - cheaper than elsewhere but also good quality. There are also fake leather versions for about £100 less. Knits are a delight, with some monochrome zigzag designs, while sporty pieces like joggers and mesh or fake leather T-shirts are all around £20, cheaper than many plain printed tees elsewhere. It’s quite a young offer, but it all works well together. The store is also nicely spaced out, with accessories including bags and shoes interspersed with clothing.
There is a lack of colour in this mostly grey and monochrome range, so the look is a bit limited compared with River Island or Topman and hence the mannequins look monotonous. Some items, such as trousers, are flagged on displays as £29.99, although some on the rails within go up to £45 for no obvious reason.
