002. Coggles

91-93 Low Petergate, York

Who you need to know Chief executive and creative director Mark Bage and director Sarah Marwood

Brands include Charlotte Taylor, Comme des Garçons, Denham, Dries Van Noten, Kenzo, Maison Martin Margiela, Nike, Vivienne Westwood

Last year’s number one, premium indie Coggles remains one of the sector’s leading lights and a benchmark of success for many.

Chief executive and creative director Mark Bage says the store is proof that indies can compete with the big brands and that innovation rather than imitation is what sets it apart. Renowned for its savvy buying, Coggles has taken on Dries Van Noten, Kenzo and Maison Martin Margiela in spring 13.

Coggles.com has a big online presence, and last year the website was redesigned to showcase editorial content and include bicycle and music sections.

This year, Coggles.com is building its editorial content by working with a network of writers and photographers, and will launch a street style section in New York as it grows internationally.
