04 Browns

Seven London stores including flagship at 23-27 South Molton Street, W1

Who you need to know Owner Joan Burstein, creative director Caroline Burstein and chief executive Simon Burstein

Brands include Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Christopher Kane, Holly Fowler, Lanvin, Preen, Stella McCartney

From one store on South Molton Street  in London in 1970 to seven stores in 2011, the Burstein family has created an iconic indie that continues to go from strength to strength.

Chief executive Simon Burstein puts this success down to “always looking for new talent and finding new designers that are exclusive to Browns”. New designers that have kept the brand mix unique in the past year include Huishan Zhang and Holly Fowler.

The London indie also launched a bridal shop dedicated to designer Vera Wang’s wedding gowns last February. The store, which Simon Burstein describes as a “fantastic success”, replaced the Browns Shoe store.
