042. Strut and Stroll

Three London stores including 182 Stoke Newington Church Street, London N16

Who you need to know Owners Hoana Poland and Ariana Sheehan

Brands include Acne, Bill Skinner, Comme des Garçons, David David, Marc Jacobs, Raf Simons, Vivienne Westwood, Yohji Yamamoto

Leafing through the rails at London indie Strut and Stroll, you’ll find everything from 1980s’ Alaïa to current-season Stella McCartney. It is hardly surprising then that many of the people doing said rummaging are designers, editors, and stylists.

Strut and Stoll’s anti-fast fashion concept has been a hit. “The majority of it is impossible to find elsewhere, which is why we have proved so popular. We give an alternative to the fashion mainstream,” says co-owner Hoana Poland.

Business is booming; in 2012 mother-and-daughter team Poland and Ariana Sheehan opened a menswear store called Strut Man at 111 Stoke Newington Church Street, and this year they plan to launch a transactional website.
