044. Yard

171 Bridport Road, Poundbury, Dorchester

Who you need to know Owner Vicki Fernyhough

Brands include American Vintage, Becksöndergaard, Great Plains, Maison Scotch, Part Two, Twist & Tango

Dorset indie Yard has had an amazing 2012.

After opening just three years ago in an out-of-the-way building site, the retailer is now thriving, and was named Best New Business at the Drapers Fashion Awards 2012.

Inside the polished store, owner Vicki Fernyhough’s past experience as buying and merchandising director at New Look is evident.

“One of the best compliments is being asked if we are part of a chain. I think this recognises the attention to detail and professionalism,” she says. Last year, Yard added more brands to stretch its price architecture and work began on a transactional website. A second store could be on the horizon this year, as well as a Yard
own brand.
