56 MKI Miyuki-Zoku

Unit 4, The Corn Exchange, Call Lane, Leeds

Who you need to know Owner Vik Taylor

Brands include Cheap Monday, Comme des Garçons, MKI, Randers Handsker, Saint James, Superga

Vik Taylor begins by explaining the name of his contemporary menswear indie. Miyuki-Zoku was a youth group in Japan, which was the first to copy the Ivy League style from the US in the late 1960s. “We took this on board and created our store concept,” he says.

Taylor doesn’t conform to trends; instead he aims at an individual style – and has his own label, MKI. He pays close attention to the streets of London, Berlin and Copenhagen. With the store shortlisted for the Drapers Fashion Awards last year, it’s an approach that’s paying off.
