An indie I admire...Made Man in Cockfosters

Chosen by Charlie Henery, international sales manager at womenswear brand Motel Rocks

For an indie I admire I’m choosing Made Man in Cockfosters, which stands out in this leafy north London suburb. The area is also home to the training grounds of two famous football teams – Spurs and Arsenal.

The store stocks a healthy mixture of sought-after brands and more commercial offerings. The brand mix includes Prps, Nudie, Denham, Fred Perry, Eleven Paris, Barbour, Diesel and Carhartt, to name a few.

Owner Aziz Abidat has opted for an ‘in-your-face’ shopfit with chandelier-style lighting and gilt frames to shelve the products.

This bold interior is ideally suited to the local clientele, who would normally travel to the West End to find similar surroundings.

The owner has to take credit for spotting this change in the market so swiftly. A few years ago, Abidat owned Phlip on the King’s Road, which was a streetwear mecca for more than a decade. Few retailers have the balls to completely overhaul, rename and rebrand themselves with such conviction.
