Andrew Maloney

Owner of two-store designer menswear and womenswear indie Eton in Sheffield and Rotherham.

How is trade at the moment?

We’re relatively happy, but it always peters out at this time of year because people hold out for the Sale period.

Have you brought your Sale forward this year in line with department stores?

I may go in the first rather than the second week of July. I’ll combat the competition by price matching, so if a customer has seen a particular bag on Sale in Selfridges and can verify that, we’ll match the price.

Are you taking on any new brands for spring 11?

I have a meeting next week with a major luxury British heritage brand, so I’m hoping that comes off and it agrees to supply us.

What else are you planning at Eton?

We’re going to enter our Sheffield store in the Best New Store category of the Drapers Awards. I’m relaunching our website ahead of that. I’ve just closed it down and have a technical company working on it to make the graphics better and faster for a relaunch next month.
