Clare Thommen

Clare Thommen co-owner of two-store lingerie indie Boudiche in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Brands include Chantelle, La Perla, Mimi Holliday, Stella McCartney.

How is business going?

Generally, trade is fine – we are up by 2% or so this season. Sales from the web have grown by more than 100% and the Glasgow store is doing particularly well. However, tram works have affected footfall in our Edinburgh store.

Which brands are doing well?

Mimi Holliday and Elle Macpherson Intimates. I think it has to do with brand awareness. They do their PR and marketing well and their lingerie fits nicely. The new autumn 09 collection from Fleur of England is doing well; it’s a beautiful and very feminine collection.

What are the major trends among your customers?

Edinburgh consumers like to come and in and purchase something that is practical and good value for money. Glasgow shoppers are much more fashion led and like to see new things.

Why did you launch a blog on your website?

Social media is becoming so important and widely used that we must ensure we stay up to date.
