A former luxury goods analyst has launched an online portal for independent womenswear designers from around the world.
Dia soft launched this month at www.dia-boutique.com and will be fully launched on August 10.
Set up by Rasha Khouri, the site aims to promote and support independent creative fashion designers and will showcase products by luxury labels from across the globe such as the eponymous label by Lebanese designer Georges Chakra and Bodyamr, run by Oman-born designer Amr Ali. Former Central Saint Martins College students Karen Karam and Mia Jafari are also among the designers on the site.
Khouri said: “The focus is on independent designers from around the world that are interesting to our customers and have some kind of story to tell. For example, the range by Sarah’s Bags is put together by female ex-convicts who are working for the designer after leaving prison and going through rehabilitation.”
Dia, which will sell more than 600 products, will give independent designers a platform to a larger audience, added Khouri. “Many designers don’t understand ecommerce so this is an easy way for them to have an online presence.”
Other womenswear designers on the site include Green Bar, Ronald and Liwan.
