Dover Street Market plots New York launch

Designer London indie Dover Street Market is to open a new store in New York next year.

The retailer, which was founded by Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo, has signed for a 20,000 sq ft seven story building at 160 Lexington Avenue. According to reports the store is due to open in December next year.

Earlier this year the indie unveiled plans to branch further overseas after opening its first store in Tokyo in March. It was reported that Kawakubo and her husband and business partner Adrian Joffe, planned to open as many as five stores.

Dover Street Market is part-designer store, part-art exhibition, and the store stocks a selection of rising stars including J JS Lee, Simone Rocha and Qasimi Homme, alongside big names such as Céline, Alexander McQueen and Jil Sander.
