Giulio Cinque

Giulio Cinque owner of three-store designer indie Giulio in Cambridge.

Brands include D&G, Gucci, Hugo Boss, Paul Smith, Prada, Vivienne Westwood.

How is trade?
It’s been difficult recently because there hasn’t been a trading pattern, so consumer spending has been very unpredictable. It’s been worse in our womenswear store than in our menswear store.

Which brands are selling best for you at the moment?
For menswear we’ve been doing well with Gucci, Prada and Vivienne Westwood. For womenswear we’ve been selling Christian Louboutin shoes and Diane von Furstenberg.

What challenges does the  designer market face?
I speculate that brands in other sectors are giving better support to independents during these difficult times.

How do you think business will fare this Christmas?
I think a lot of the high street stores won’t go on Sale before Christmas this year. Everyone went on Sale last year and didn’t make enough money from it. Running more in-store events and activities might help me stay competitive this year, so I’m planning those now.
