Drapers probe leading Independents to get their View from the Shop Floor.

Maggie Sibbald Owner of Maxine de Paris Lingerie in Swansea

Brands include Diva, Felina, Lise Charmel, Gottex, Gideon Oberson, Pain de Sucre, Wacoal

How is trade?

Not good – it’s unpredictable. I have busy weeks, then quiet ones. The money seems to be at the top end, so expensive labels like Lise Charmel are selling well, but business is slow.

What are people buying in swimwear?

One-pieces, cross-over designs and turquoise shades. Cruisewear is bigger than ever. People don’t just want a swimsuit: they want the jacket, skirt, trousers and kaftan to go with it.

What type of marketing do you do?

We advertise in local magazines and on Facebook. I also have an eBay shop for old stock and soon I’m setting up a website with an online shop.

What’s the key to finding the right lingerie?

It’s all about fit, especially with larger-busted women. A lot of people are in denial. They were size 12 when they were 23, but now they’re 43 they’re an F-cup. Having the correct lingerie makes your clothes look better.

Have you noticed changes in buying behaviour?

Drapers probe leading Independents to get their View from the Shop Floor. It seems to take a lot longer to make decisions.
