Matches receives £12m investment

Luxury indie mini-chain Matches has received a £12m investment after a Scottish venture capitalist firm took a stake in the company.

Scottish Equity Partners bought a share in the company, although the size of the stake has not been disclosed.

SEP partner Andrew Davison will join the Matches’ board. According to reports the cash will allow the company to expand into international markets.

Davison said: “We are delighted to be the company’s first private equity backer and to have the opportunity to support such a talented team.”

He added: “Tom and Ruth Chapman have built Matches Fashion into a highly trusted and iconic brand. Our investment will enable the company to expand its online operations and cement its position as a leading global fashion business.”

Chapman was unavailable for comment.
