How is trade at the moment?

It’s alright. We put less stock into the Sale than last year, and have sold more full-price merchandise so we are making a better profit. Swimwear is doing really well.

Have the earlier summer Sales had a negative impact on your business?

A little bit. We’ve been up against stores like Debenhams that can offer up to 40% reductions, which we can’t compete with.

Are you buying any new brands for next season?

Yes, we’re bringing in Gossard. I think it will complement our portfolio.

How are you feeling about autumn 10?

Quietly confident. I’m more worried about spring 11. I think the VAT rise and public sector cuts will hurt business.

What are the biggest challenges you face you in the current economic climate?

The costs for gas and electricity seem to always be on the rise and, with the Government cutting back on local funding, the first priority is to try to keep profits up.
